Of Meanings and Musings

Define a chance.
Is it a risk, a venture?
Or the modest version of its more flamboyant relative destiny?
Define a meeting. An encounter.
Or is it the coming together of more than just people?
Define closure. Is it just a feeling?
Then what about infatuation? Longing? Love?
There are things that escape ‘meaning’.
How love can hurt so much, for instance.
Or how it can make you feel you own the world.
Or are platinum and gold mere elements on the Periodic table?
Define a colour. Monochromatic. Ashes of roses.
Define an ice-cube finding its way down your back.
Define the good stuff. Ever wonder how it’s relative?
How it’s the little moments that actually matter?
How any man can sweep any woman off her feet?
As long as he has the right broom?
Define a kiss.
Is it the opening of your mouth?
And the speaking of your heart?
For that matter how do you define life itself?

Does time really ever stand still?
Does the moon ever radiate its own light?
How long is the time before two lovers meet?
Does three months last only for 90 days?
Does a Kodak moment last for only 1/500th of a second?
How much time is too much time?
When you’re listening to the Rascal Flatts anthology?
When you have the world laid before you
And the one you love isn’t there to share it?
Sometimes 2 hours indulging in a hot bath,
A glass of dry red wine and piping hot food,
Can seem like an evening.
A night of dancing
In the arms of the one you love,
A whole year.
Sometimes a kiss beneath the stars
Can feel like a lifetime.
And being loved by YOU
And loving you, is an eternity.
